Mark Lyken BFE is a filmmaker and sound artist based in rural Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

He is a self-shooting and editing filmmaker whose work is often the result of long-term collaborative, community-engaged residencies across the UK and internationally.

Mark has performed and screened around the world with work commissioned by funders including:
BBC Arts, Creative Scotland, Alchemy Film & Arts, LUX Scotland, Screen Scotland, Cryptic Glasgow, British Council and Heritage Lottery.

Mark is editing his fifth feature, a creative documentary commissioned by Alchemy Film & Arts, exploring the unseen town-wide labour and ancient traditions of Hawick's yearly Common Riding.

He records Harsh Noise under the monikers Janza Slope, Rural Noise and co-runs the production company Soft Error with regular collaborator Emma Dove.

Mark tutors for the MA Film Practice online course at Arts University Bournemouth.
